Who was Cleto Reyes?

Cleto Reyes Castro was born on April 26, 1920, in Mexico City and began working at the age of 12 in a saddlery where baseball gear was manufactured. In 1936, while attending primary school, his great love for boxing was born and in 1938, Cleto Reyes participated in an amateur fight but decided better to repair the gloves he had used during the fight and this was the beginning of his career in glove manufacture.

Subsequently, the son of Cleto Reyes, Alberto Reyes obtained the approval of the Federal District Box Commission, and in 1945 Cleto Reyes gloves were used for the first time in a World Championship. In 1965 he had his first representative in the United States and other countries. And in 1970 that Alberto Reyes, son of Don Cleto enters the company and registers the Cleto Reyes brand in 1975 and founding in 1979 what is now Industria Reyes, S.A. from C.V.

We work in a traditional way, for the most part, although we use sewing machines and instruments to cut and shape the leather, the process is by hand. The manufacture of the glove begins with the selection of leather because we cannot allow a glove in full combat to break.
