Friday, September 13 in the Madison Square Garden, Hulu theatre in New York. The eight-time world champion in seven divisions Amanda Serrano and the undefeated Heather Hardy will face for the WBC lightweight world title.
“I’m really excited,” Serrano told. “I know it’s going to be a great fight. I’m truly thankful to her because it’s been a while since I’ve fought for a belt. Most of the champions have been dodging me. It’s going to be good to go out and fight a champion.”
Serrano who has won world titles in seven categories expect to defend the title and going Brooklyn vs. Brooklyn and trust there’s not going to be an empty seat at the theatre.
“My camp always includes gloves with boys because they are the only ones who don’t complain… I give them hard and they too and without fear. I know there is no woman with their strength and boxing and I take the opportunity to thank Duke Mikah, Pablo Valdés, my sister Cindy, who has a very fine boxing and amateur boxer Meagan Owen, who is one of the best here in the United States, ” said Serrano.
Both, Hardy and Serrano has been constantly pushing for more female fights in television, so this is another step for that journey. Serrano hops to win and she’s not looking Hardy as a fellow. “I’m a single mom from Brooklyn, just like her…Heather is a true champion and doesn’t give up easily. Neither one of us wants to take a step back. We give it our all. There’s going to be no backing up from either of us.”
The Puerto Rican mixed martial artist and professional fighter is expecting to become world champion for the ninth time against the also American mixed martial artist and professional boxer who is the featherweight world champion of the World Boxing Organization.
“A lot of people seem to think that Amanda isn’t battle tested, and she really is,” said Hardy. “She knows how to walk through the fire, just like I do. And if anyone stands a chance in there with a vicious puncher like Amanda, it’s somebody like me. I’ve got the hardest head in the business.”
Both may be from Brooklyn, New York. But they can’t have the title together.
