Lomachenko vs Ortiz
Vasyl Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs), will see action again after 10 months in his country as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. His rival will be the undefeated American Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs) and it will be a fight scheduled at lightweight.
Lomachenko vs Ortiz One of the most anticipated returns in boxing will take place on Saturday, October 29 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Loma, with a record of 16-2, will look for a convincing victory against ´The Technician´ Ortiz with the hope that Devin Haney will give him a chance to fight for the titles in 2023. Loma lost the WBA World Titles (Super), WBO, and The Ring at lightweight in UD’s loss to Teófimo López in October 2020.
At the weigh-in ceremony “The Matrix” Lomachenko weighed 134.6 Lbs and his opponent “the technician” weighed 134 Lbs.
I love my sport and I am very happy to be back. My goal is to win the undisputed lightweight title, but I will not take Jamaine Ortiz lightly. MSG’s Madison Square Garden and Hulu Theater have been special places in my career, and I look forward to adding more good memories on October 29. I want to dedicate this fight to all my Ukrainian people. I carry the flag with pride every time I step into the ring,” Lomachenko said in the fight introduction.
Ortiz said: “I am excited about this fight. Vasiliy Lomachenko is a great fighter, but I am here to win. Once I win this fight, I will look for a world title shot. This is a dream come true.”
